A crash on the main road between Rookley and Niton has brought down a telegraph pole, resulting in the road becoming blocked in both directions this afternoon (Friday).
The incident has occurred on Niton Road at Bleak Down, near to the Chequer’s Inn.
Emergency services are on scene where it’s understood a car – a Skoda – has crashed into the street furniture.
Motorists should avoid the area, diverting via Chequers Inn Road and Godshill.
I think that post was a little rotten for it to snap that easily. You don’t walk away from them posts or tree’s. I no I have hit one in my days.
What rubbish you speak.
Wow, sweeping statement or what!
How on earth do you crash on that part of Bleak?!
More Bleak drivers from island so called drivers, lots more on the way..
Ha ha ha ha !! Reminds me of a Pink Floyd song… Poles Apart… !! Please can someone tell me where these drivers come from ??
Erm born and bred locally!
Not so – mainly from the Mainland!
Mainland driver can’t handle are narrow roads and due care and attention comes to mind
“ the other pole just stepped out into the path of the car… officer”!…
I tend to find that mainland drivers over here are a bit more switched on, courteous, spatially aware, better lane discipline etc as opposed to the indigenous brain deads that “grace” the islands roads. Down votes below please.
Stop blaming mainland drivers. The island has some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen.
Correct I have to do a fair bit of driving during the week and I am shocked at how appalling the standard of driving/road sense are over here.
