Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on Middle Road between Carisbrooke and Calbourne tonight (Monday).
It is thought at least 1 person is trapped inside a vehicle as a result of the incident, which has occurred close to Betty Haunt Lane.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene with appliances from Cowes, Newport and Yarmouth. Crews are working alongside colleagues from the ambulance service to treat and extricate the casualty.
An Island Echo reader reports that just 1 vehicle is involved in the crash and that fire crews are currently using cutting gear to remove the roof.
Police have closed the busy Newport-Freshwater road in both directions.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash shortly before 21:30.
UPDATE @ 22:55 – 1 male has been cut free from the wreckage of his vehicle after crashing into a tree. The extent of the casualty’s injuries is unknown at this time.
Middle Road remains closed and is likely to remain so for at least another 60 minutes, if not longer. Police have put in a hard road closure at the Betty Haunt Lane junction, diverting traffic via Yarmouth Road/Forest Road.

several of them involving the juncitons at the ends of Betty Haunt Lane…
