Cowes Town Council’s precept for Band D properties is set to decrease by 89p in the 2026/27 financial year, it has been confirmed.
The initial announcement from the Town Council indicated a small increase of 4.7p, but updated calculations now show the Parish Charge will fall from £117.67 in 2025/26 to £116.78 in 2026/27 – subject to formal approval.
It applies only to the Town Council’s element of the Council Tax bill and does not include the other precepting authorities such as the Isle of Wight Council, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary or the Fire Authority, whose final charges are yet to be confirmed.
Mayor of Cowes, Councillor Stuart Ellis, has said:
“We know how important it is to keep costs manageable for households across Cowes. By maintaining strong financial discipline and focusing on efficiency, we are able to keep the precept virtually the same as last year while still investing in our community.”
Despite the decrease, Cowes Town Council says it will continue to fund key priorities including the upkeep of public toilets, support for town events and ongoing assistance for local voluntary and charitable organisations.

It’s enough to make one move to Cowes, if only
it wasn’t controlled by Labour.
