Local schoolboy Ashton Cox starred at the Junior Premier League (JPL) National Championships recently. Ashton – who started playing football when he was just 3 years old – plays for Southampton-based Millbrook U14’s on a Saturday after being approached by the mainland club. Having won the Under 14 South Coast League, the team was invited to the JPL National Championship which was held at Warwick University. The Cowes Enterprise College student who plays as a Central Attacking Midfielder and his teammates triumphed against fellow league-winning teams from across the South of England, taking home the rather impressive-looking trophy after 2-days of knockout football. Ashton plays football on the Island in the U14s Sunday league for Gurnard Lions.
