The Isle of Wight Council will be suspending the Cowes Floating Bridge service from 10:00 this morning (Friday) to allow essential repairs to be carried out ahead of the busy Bank Holiday weekend.
An issue has been identified with the south-east prow hinge on the troubled vessel. Whilst serviceable at present, it is questionable whether it will hold for the busy Bank Holiday weekend with the Action Challenge and IW Randonnee relying on the Cowes-East Cowes service.
To ensure the vessel is fully operational for the weekend, Floating Bridge No.6 is being pulled from service and a temporary launch will be in operation from 10:00 until further notice.
This floating bridge is another triumph for stupidity over common sense.
Instead of looking at the very successful and continually operating old floating bridge and saying “I know, we will build a new floating bridge that is the exact same design as the existing one, however, we will put up to date stuff in it, internally, then we know it will work happily for many years, just like the old one”, they decided “lets build one that is totally different to the one that has worked for many years without issue and
make it bigger”
Clearly they all have egg on the floaty mc float faces.
I totally agree mate. They bought a new one that wasn’t even made for us bring back the old one that worked without issue
what happend??! years ago the isle of wight council had good ideas.and the only bad one was the coppins bridge fiasco…
Now this subject is a inconvenient joke!! and has made the islands council also a joke.. Obviously someone was trippin when they had the brilliant idea of changing the old bridge that was working ok for a piece of s#!+ that spends more time static that transporting vehicles from one side to another .
Really!! In the few years that eysore has been There it has broken down more times than the old one had in 40 odd years..
Someone need ta get their head out their a=?#s and look at the plans for the old one and do that.. Not design something that does nothing But keep f¥©£!$g up!!
