The Isle of Wight Council is reinforcing the fact that permission is needed – and payment made – to hold events or sessions on Council-owned beaches and parks across the Isle of Wight.
It has come to the local authority’s attention that some people are using land owned by the Council without permission, and therefore without paying the amenity land hire charge.
As a result, business owners and event organisers are now being reminded that they must get permission to hold an event in a public park or on a beach. It is said that public liability and indemnity insurance may be invalided by the lack of permission.
Examples of events taking place include keep-fit sessions, dog agility classes, fetes, football games and larger commercial events.
Part of getting express permission to use the land is to ensure that event organisers are paying for its use. Non-registered charities must pay between £106 and £365 per day, whilst registered charities are charged between £56 and £141 per day. Small events such as a bootcamp training session are charged at just £19 per day. Other misc events are billed at £64 per hour.
Larger events, such as music festivals, can be charged up to £1,960 per day. On top of this, the Council asks for a £500 refundable deposit to cover any damage.
However, not all the conditions in the terms and conditions are applicable to all events, it will be dependent on the size and type of the proposed event.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“Our commercial services team will work with you to offer advice on the best way forward before the event takes place. This means you can run your events and sessions in the safest way possible; so the earlier you speak with them, the more they can help to make it happen”.

It has come to my attention that the Isle of Wight Council has requested that I place a sticker on my dust bin.To do this I will charge the council £100.00 pounds plus the insurance involved. The money received will then be spent on going to the beach and pay to build sand castles.
I wonder if Fly Tippers put stickers on their rubbish.
In my Garden once the dopes who collect the rubbish leave,

It takes great skill to deposit rubbish in a bin onto the road, but they clearly haven’t been trained on how to pick it up. Will theybe prosecuted for littering or fly tipping?
They should be, to leave rubbish in another persons Garden is Flytipping.
Why should I keep bin on my property it belongs to IOW council they should pay rent for this and for having to manoeuvre it around once a week.
If a person injures themselves moving these bins I imagine the

Council don’t own land it belongs to the isle of Wight tax payers,we all should have a say. It’s so corrupt this council in that we are forced to pay c/tax by law or face prison,yet council can then waste it,loose it and spend on themselves and no consequence to them.
Good. It is so frustrating trying to have a relaxing walk without bumping into lots of yoga classes on the beaches, lots of meditation and standing on one foot, people humming with music playing the sound of whales.

So jogging, kid’s picnics,kids kicking football,kite flying,sun bathing as part of coach party, sandcastle building competition,metal detector, scout BBQ ,dog walkers and kids cycle training etc – total abuse by IOW council, this is public land paid for by public for recreational use . Unless it’s use is for commercial gain or blocks public use like IOW music festival at Sea close then council should have no right to charge for land use owned by public. Not fare a charity pays £365 per day and makes no commercial gain,yet IOW festival only £1900 per day and makes hundreds of thousands and blocks access to park and traffic chaos.
The council needs to understand that we own the council. The council does not own our land.

How much do they charge for scooter weekend? They deny any involvement in this, but facilitate road closures and hundreds of scooters parked on public pathways
The people own the land, the Councils job is to look after it funded by the taxpayers. (The same goes for buildings that they think ‘they’ own)
When I first read this article,I thought here we go,but now after reading it,if a business or organisation is using public land owned and managed by the council and is making a profit……surely they should make a contribution back to the community and to this lovely Island .
Only if it prevents other members of public using such, eg IOW festival that blocks off paths, roads and use of park ,Scooter rally ,Fair and circus etc,not a kids football match or keep fit, joggers etc. Soon the council will charge cyclists to ride cycle paths.
The council are already paid to maintain these facilities through council tax. Let people use the land they own.

The “council commercial services team” should be one of the first departments to be closed down to save money. The council should just provide the services that we need and charge far less council tax.
