Emergency services were called to the South Wight earlier this afternoon (Monday) after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man on the roof of a residential property in Niton. Several fire appliances from Newport and Ryde, alongside blue light colleagues from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, were mobilised to the scene on Allotment Road shortly before 16:00. It is understood that a man had climbed onto the roof of the property and was attempting to harm himself by hanging. Island Echo understands that after around 45 minutes, he was helped down and transferred into an awaiting ambulance – with the help of a stretcher – and taken to St Mary’s Hospital. 
Rectory Road was closed by Police between Priory Walk and Lacey’s Lane as the incident unfolded. It has since reopened. Today’s dramatic incident comes just a couple of weeks after a similar incident in the village. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that they were called to concerns for welfare. All emergency service personnel have now stood down.

Not getting why Ambulance and Fire service attend when no casualty as yet or fire ,yet when there’s a car accident,flood or elderly person fallen or sick child it takes them hours to show. Police were present and dealing and able to call if needed.
Unfortunately there will always be more people (across the board) than there are available services. Society does love the procreate more people. But in answer to your statement Freddie is: should the not coping man (and we’ve all been in situations of distress in life) had jumped to hang himself 1, Fire service for arial ladder to retrieve him from the hanging and 2, the ambulance to attend to his needs after the hanging. And so these needed to be on standby, not awaiting for the event to happen. It is a frail world we live in at the moment and better to maybe engage the brain and show a spot of compassion. Not everybodys’ life is perfect and common sense is now becoming a university degree.
I hope that the patient gets the care they need. The services have paid a massive part in the patients care in getting them to St Marys, well done all concerned
Harm himself is the key here, such a waste of resources and disruption to normal people working!!! Just let them sort themselves out and see if they bounce, this country is full of people draining our society and economy. While numpty Neil threatens to jump Doris in Newport is waiting for an ambulance as she’s fallen and broke her hip while her loving husband who’s worked all his life paying his taxes, just take 30 seconds to think about it.

the only issue seems to be that the emergency services can’t do both.
It’s not the fault of Doris (who probably also worked and paid tax),..
neither is it the fault of ‘numpty Neil’ who’s mental health is suffering (probably exacerbated by the current cost of living crisis).
No,.. it’s 100% the fault of 13 years of ‘Austerity’ and economic mis-management by the CONservatives, starving public services of funds, while helping their rich chums, to get even richer..
And now,,. The god father of Austerity (David [I got it so wrong over Brexit] Cameron) is back, in a crucial government job, without being elected by the public!!!

I sat on the kitchen floor with a frail pensioner who had fallen and couldn’t get back up for 8 HOURS because there was no available ambulance recently. I rang 999 several times. I agree with Iow dave. Leave them to it.
