Police are responding to concerns for the welfare of a woman on Whitwell Road near Ventnor this afternoon (Tuesday).
5 units are currently in attendance on the main Ventnor to Whitwell road close to St Lawrence Shute.
Island Echo readers have described seeing a female at the side of the carriageway and at least 1 vehicle – a delivery van – stopped at the scene. However, fears from passers-by that the pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle have been ruled out by Police.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo:
“Officers were called at 4.05pm this afternoon to reports of concern for welfare of a woman on Whitwell Road.
“The ambulance service have been called.
“Officers are on scene”.
