28-year-old Leo Mark Woodford has been sentenced to a community order after stealing a large amount of cash from a laundrette in Newport.
The incident occurred at Newport Laundrette on the junction of Drill Hall Road and High Street on 20th November last year.
Upon discovering the missing money, of an unknown exact amount, owner Dev Thakrar took to social media in a bid to help identify the suspect by uploading a CCTV image. This eventually led to the arrest of Woodford, who was charged with theft.
Appearing before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Monday 2nd August, Leo Woodford, of Gunville Road in Carisbrooke, was made subject to a 12-month community order with 60 hours unpaid work attached. Magistrates also ordered him to pay £500 compensation, £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
He indicated a guilty plea at a previous hearing on 12th July, with the case adjourned for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.
