Emergency services have been called to a road traffic collision on Copse Lane in Freshwater this morning (Friday).
2 ambulances are responding to the incident, alongside several Police units.
The crash occurred shortly before 08:45.
Southern Vectis buses are unable to serve Pixley Hill, Copse Lane or Hooke Hill until further notice.
UPDATE @ 09:40 – The road has now re-opened in both directions.
It is time for the IW council to take action to try to reduce the huge number of RTLs’ that have now become daily news.
Unfortunately recent road surface improvements have ,in my opinion, have contributed to increased driving speed .That plus the enormous number of vehicles has brought about an island wide dodgem car ride. The channel Islands faced this problem years ago. They introduced an overall speed limit;
Everyone has different opinions on everything. “My” opinion is speed is not always the factor in a lot of these collisions. Driver error on one or more parties is nearly always the cause. Have a look at road traffic collision!s reports and it would hardly ever blame something else as the cause apart from driver error. Slippery road ? Drive according to conditions. Pull away from junctions ? surely common sense to always look and why take chances by pulling out when you “think” you can get away with it. Feel sorry for Police and all emergency services who are all stretched with keep on attending to all these totally unnecessary incidents. I’ve always believed that whatever vehicle you are driving YOU are responsible to drive according to conditions and with consideration to others. Your vehicle large or small only does what YOU make it.
Too right George. I think one day car drivers will be allocated miles p/annum depending on your circumstances. I cycle the same route every day, I see the same retires out in the range rovers, Audi q 4 tanks on their own going twice speed limit to get a paper, then race home like they just stole it to read it.
