The Met Office have issued an amber Level 3 cold weather alert for much of England as arctic conditions move in, which could lead to some sleety and snowy conditions in the coming days.
Forecasters say there is a 99% probability of severe cold weather, icy conditions and heavy snow until midday on Tuesday. It comes as a yellow weather warning for snow and ice is issued for the West country and parts of Dorset, however Hampshire and the Isle of Wight currently remains just outside of the warning area.
Locally, temperatures are expected to drop considerably with some frosty mornings and icy conditions expected on the Island’s road network. Tonight will see a cold breeze which will continue throughout Friday with a frost developing overnight into Saturday. That frost will increase on Saturday night into Sunday, which will be another cold day. The sleet and snow is expected from Sunday night onwards, however it is unlikely to lay.
Island Roads will be gritting the Island’s road network and footbridges tonight (Thursday).
