Cries for help heard from the cliff top at Chale have led to a search and rescue operation in the South Wight this morning (Saturday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat are currently conducting a search near to Chale Recreation Ground following reports from a member of the public that they had heard someone shouting for help.
The search from both land and sea continues but nothing untoward has been found thus far.
It is thought that a dog walker calling for their pet to return may have been mistaken.
UPDATE – With nothing found, the search in the area of Walpen Chine has been stood down.
The incident is being treated as a false alarm with good intent.
