Fears of people in distress following the discovery of buoyancy aids on the beach at Sandown prompted the tasking of HM Coastguard last night (Saturday).
Calls with reports that a pair of buoyancy aids had washed up on the beach at Sandown were first made to HM Coastguard at around 20:14.
Due to the nature of the call, Coastguard Rescue Teams from both Bembridge and Ventnor were tasked to the scene, with the assistance of Sandown Independent Lifeboat also requested.
Those on scene scoured the shore and shallow waters for around 60 minutes before the search was stood down. No person(s) in distress were located.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
