Local Giggly Grannies Lyn Blackledge and Julie Jordan organised a spectacular final leaving do for ‘wacky’ Rev Marie Attwood at Ryde Methodist Church on Saturday.
The event started in the new memorial garden, which the Reverend organised with money raised in memory of Doug Reading, a local preacher who attended the church since 1986.
Teas were served and Doug’s family were photographed, as was Miles Clarke who completed most of the work on the garden, which inspired the concert of ‘English Country Garden’ where members of the congregation entertained.
A fantastic floral balloon arch was made by Deborah of PerfectPartiesIOW and Pauline Crabb, the church flower curator, created a stunning floral display. Members of the church crafted birds, butterflies paper flowers and more to decorate the church hall. Marie Smith played floral songs on her saxaphone and there was a quiz and a raffle.
The event raised £126 for the church flower fund.
One of the organisers said:
“The congregation never wanted Marie to leave and the attendance at the event showed how much she was loved and will be missed by the congregation”.
