Working together, staff at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the Isle of Wight College, were challenged to design a Christmas tree to represent equality and diversity – ‘Diversitree’.
The competition was held this week at St Mary’s Hospital and was organised by Hazel Pither, Operational Lead for Equality and Diversity at the Trust and Rosie Barnard, Equality and Diversity Manager at IW College.
The trees were judged on their innovation and in aligning to the theme of equality and diversity. The overall winner was the ‘Inyourendo – Vive la difference’ tree, created by the Endoscopy Department at St Mary’s. Second place went to ‘Going around in circles’ by staff at Laidlaw, with third being awarded to the ‘Intergenerational’ tree, a joint effort between Afton Ward and pupils at Lanesend Primary School.
Thank you goes to the judges: Rob da Bank, Maggie Oldham, Jay Chappell, Vicky Goode, Debbie Lavin and Roland White.
Hazel Pither said:
“Thank you to everyone that was involved in the competition and particularly to our Isle of Wight College colleagues, who were a pleasure to work alongside.”
“This competition is a great tribute in supporting and raising awareness of equality & diversity issues, as well as providing much delight for our patients and visitors to the hospital.”
The trees are on display at the Full Circle Restaurant, St Mary’s Hospital until 19th December.

Can’t the WEST just ONCE a year, be allowed to have OUR Christian MAIN festival without some PC twits, having to make an ‘issue’ out of it.
Sick of charity ad’s for the bottomless pit lands trying to make those here feel guilty for having just a few days of having just a little extra for their OWN families.
Cant see ‘other’ religions bending to allow ‘us’ in, at their most Holy times.
Charities jump on every event going – some poor sod puts on some running shoes at home and by the time he/she stands up to walk out the front door, a charity has slapped a number on his/her backs and thrust a sponsor form in their hands.
This is the list of the top 100 charities from march of this year that have the highest earners – all from your donations…

The Wellcome Trust is number one, with income of nearly half a billion quid, top execs getting £3.17 million a year and there are 286 people on the payroll getting over £60k each.
I am not donating to any of these charities ever again, when I see how much the “employees” are rinsing the charities for in wages.
