Over £4,200 has been handed over to 2 local good causes today (Thursday) thanks to the generous donations made at the Long Lane Christmas Lights display in December.
Terry and Sue Ramplin have been inviting members of the public to enjoy their magical display of lights in Newport for some 18 years. As a result of the support of local businesses and the thousands of families who visited this year, a total of £4,270 has been raised – one of the highest amounts accumulated by the Ramplins in a single year. The record stands at £4,375 (2016).
The money has been split between the IW NHS Trust Ambulance Community Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) scheme and Challenge & Adventure.
The £2,270 received by the Ambulance Service will be spent on buying 2 new defibrillators for the local community. Meanwhile Challenge & Adventure will be spending the money on continuing to help disadvantaged and challenging young people on the Isle of Wight.
Louise Walker, Head of the Ambulance Training and Community Response Services said:
“I am enormously grateful for Terry and Sue’s generous donation of a public access defibrillator for our Island. In the event of a cardiac arrest, every minute we delay defibrillation the casualty’s chance of survival decreases by 10 per cent so it really is absolutely vital that we have these lifesaving devices in the heart of our community.”
In thanking all of their supporters Terry and Sue have said:
“We would like to say a big thank you to all the businesses and members of the public who have helped us raise the fantastic sum of £4,270. Also to all the ladies who knitted us the Christmas tree decorations that contributed greatly towards the total.
“We were donated so much this year including a snow machine and liquid from Stage Gear; a display tent from Coast & Country; mulled wine, soft drinks and lights from Co-Op Funeral Care (Newport) and other contributions from both Howdens and Sydenhams.
“We only intended to donate 1 defibrillator but with the great support of everyone we have the money to donate 2 defibs – 1 in a wall-mounted cabinet and the other a mobile unit.
“All in all it took 6 weeks to build the display on the house and in the garden and a furhter 3 weeks to take it all down again and pack away ready for next year”.
