A single fire crew from Shanklin is tackling a chimney fire in Chale Green this morning (Friday).
1 pumping appliance was mobilised to the scene on Appleford Road in the village at around 10:30.
Firefighters are using chimney firefighting equipment to extinguish the small fire which has led to smoke being seen billowing across the carriageway.
The situation appears to be under control.

A bucket of water, and a stirrup pump with a garden metal watering can sprinkler attached to chimney sweeps cane pushed up and having a fireman hand pump the water up the chimney whilst another fireman adds water to the bucketful.
Thought by now we would have Co2 blasted into the chimney at least.
The only modern equipment being a thermal image camera and their gym equipment in Ryde

There’s rumors on Utube that log burners are going to be banned, why? Because lots of us can get wood for free, so the bastards can’t tax us on it, and they don’t like things that they can’t tax us on. They want us to be screwed for electric and gas to heat our homes so that all the government ministers with shares in the energy companies and all the share holders can rake in even more money off our backs. I saw the item on UTube look it up for yourselves!
It should be a legal requirement for all chimneys to have a flue liner fitted. There are too many half wits who have massive wood burners fitted to knackered chimneys adjoining other property. Net result fumes entering adjacent properties, risk of fire et al.
Mines not lined, I’ve got a massive log burner, i burn anything that burns in there, gets swept every year, good as gold, my gas bills near on nothing, just doing my part to heat the planet up a bit more and my house
Fully agree Bob. Don’t listen to the lying sly Gov. They are only pushing this green rot as it ‘looks as though they then care about people’.

Sure and do you pour carbon monoxide into your neighbours property? Because some half wits do. Then try and get something done about it. I’ve nothing against wood burners used properly.
A flue liner would be a good idea, but lots of people would see a flue liner as one of the flexi aluminum ones. These are only designed for lining an old chimney flue for use with a GAS fire, and are certainly not designed to take the heat from a log burner or coal burner and would simply melt with the heat.
They come in various grades of stainless steel suitable for wood burners
A flexible 316 or 904 stainless steel liner is more than up to the job and it will actually improve the performance of your wood burner. It’s not expensive either and in my opinion should be a legal requirement, especially if your property is attached to someone else’s.
They are not aluminium, they are stainless steel and are legal to use for gas and multi fuel stoves (wood /coal)
Glad I don’t live in Chale. Chale used to be served by Ventnor Station when I was in the job, but I’m guessing that Ventnor can’t get a crew together at that time of day, which worries me.
