The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to a residential property in Freshwater earlier on tonight (Friday) following reports of a chimney fire.
A crew from Freshwater Fire Station were mobilised to the property on Tennyson Road at 23:18.
The cause of the small fire is understood to have been twigs and other debris that had settled within the chimney and then ignited when the open fire was lit.
Thankfully, due to the swift response by the retained crew, the fire was quickly extinguished before it was able to spread to the rest of the property.
Once the crew had removed the debris and the embers were dowsed they made sure the property was safe.
New smoke alarms were also fitted during their visit.
The homeowner thanked the fire crew for their response.
