Southern Vectis is marking World Car Free Day tomorrow (Friday) by offering discounted travel for those using its app for the 1st time.
The move is part of the operator’s commitment to helping more people use sustainable transport on the Isle of Wight, and World Car Free Day is an initiative aimed at easing congestion, as well as improving air quality by promoting sustainable transport to motorists as alternative methods of travel.

“Many buses in our fleet are the newest and cleanest in the region. Over recent years, we have introduced a number of brand new buses to operate our services across the island – with more expected soon. These will sport the very latest Euro 6 engine – releasing fewer emissions than the average new diesel car.
“World Car Free Day ties in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve on the Isle of Wight. Buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution, so we’re proud to have invested millions of pounds in improving the comfort and reliability of our services here.”
Southern Vectis is offering 15% off an adult Day Rover ticket on Friday 22nd September, if customers are using the operator’s app for the 1st time.
To take advantage of the offer, people should use the code CARFREE when they buy their tickets on the app for the 1st time. As well as being useful for getting tickets, the app offers a range of other useful features – including a tool that tracks any bus on a map in real-time.

World car free day? What a joke! You couldn’t pay me enough to take a bus instead of using my convenient car. Will be driving to the supermarket tomorrow as I hear it is world take your own shopping home day.

The bus service on the IOW is fantastic. Always us the busses when we come to the Island. Cheaper option than paying to park the car somewhere when wanting to go to the beach
