A concert held at Christ Church in Totland has seen 3 choirs come together to raise £600 for Sophie’s Legacy, helping support families staying with children in hospital.
Newchurch Male Voice Choir, Tamworth Ladies Choir and the Mercian Singers joined forces for the fundraising concert in Totland.
Following the event, Bob Cooper attended the Children’s Ward at St Mary’s Hospital on behalf of Newchurch Male Voice Choir on 26th September to present Sophie’s Legacy Isle of Wight Lead, Kayleigh Martin, with a cheque for £600.
Pizzas donated by No7 and Niton Post Office were also distributed to parents staying with their children on the Children’s Ward and Special Care Baby Unit.
Sophie’s Legacy supports families with children in hospital, including providing refreshments and other practical support for parents who may be staying away from home for prolonged periods.
Kayliegh Martin said:
“Thank you to the choirs for this support.
“It will assist Sophie’s Legacy in providing this vital service at St Mary’s and other hospitals in the South, giving some respite to parents who have to stay in hospital with their child.
Article continues below this advertisement “We provide a rest lounge as well as free drinks, refreshments and toiletries that they would normally have access to at home.”
Bob Cooper said:
“It is the choir’s pleasure to be able to provide this financial support to the charity through singing while also giving enjoyment to the public.
“It was especially pleasing to arrive at the children’s ward to be greeted by the nursing staff ready with microphones and prepared to burst into song during the cheque presentation.
“Seeing the reaction from parents receiving the pizzas also really brought home the value of the charity’s work.”
Sophie’s Legacy runs Saturday pizza nights at St Mary’s Hospital, with businesses and individuals able to sponsor a night for £120. The money is used to provide pizzas for parents and children on the Children’s Ward.
