Emergency services are in attendance at a crash on the outskirts of Godshill this evening (Wednesday), where a car has come to rest on its side.
The incident, which happened shortly before 17:22, has occurred on the main Godshill to Whitwell road between Roud and Godshill.
The road is partially closed whilst the occupants are tended to by paramedics and the wreckage is cleared.
No serious injuries have been reported.
Motorists should avoid the area for the time being.
UPDATE – 2 vehicles have been involved in the collision, Police have confirmed.
The scene has now been cleared and the road reopened.

I’m amazed by the innumerable reports of crashed cars on the Island. Is it the fault of lousy cars, lousy drivers, lousy roads, uncontrolled drinking and/or drugs, or what….?! Good grief, a few weeks ago, the Island Echo even carried a report about a red Post Office van that had come to rest on its side somewhere in the South Wight! Was there the same frequency when I was a kid on the Isle of Wight, 60 or more years ago?! Has anyone started to work on a detailed study of the situation?

no,… ‘cos 60 year ago there were only 3 cars on the isle of wight
(slight exageration there,.. but there were massivly fewer cars back then,.. and most of them could barely do 30mph)
and of course,.. back then we didn’t have IE to publicise every single skid & bump,. so most ‘accidents’ weren’t known by the public
Interesting point John. As covered by Orac far, far fewer cars on the Island roads sixty years or more ago. To balance that, the roads would have been poorer (perhaps!) and the cars nowadays have ABS and other sorts of safety factors. Another point by Orac and a recent correspondent, are the shunts and turnovers on the mainland under-reported as of little interest. I think we should be told if the island is a hotspot when all factors are TIC.
And that’s before the ice.
Unknown how these drivers obtained a licence…

Brace your selves for more accidents today, with very iced up roads..
It’s not rocket science. The average family car is now 1-2ft wider than previously. Whilst satisfying the demand for roomier and spacious vehicle accommodation, our roads have not got any wider. Just look at the width of parking spaces and the difficulties caused getting in and out where they’ve not been adjusted. And on roads where there is resident parking down one, or both, sides of the road, 4 cars abreast where previously there was 2-way traffic, is no longer viable. But our driving habits haven’t changed. We still think we can drive down a previously known route with confidence but the sudden realisation the wing mirrors aren’t going to make it means erratic driving decisions, or maybe a touch of panic.
