A small hatchback has been left abandoned in the middle of a busy Island roundabout following a collision last night.
The blue coloured 2008 Renault Megane has been left between trees on Racecourse Roundabout having suffered significant damage in the overnight incident.
Whilst exact details of the collision are unknown at this time, the vehicle seems to have entered the roundabout from the Newport direction before mounting the kerb and colliding with a tree.
The 3-door runaround has suffered extensive damage to its front end, with its bonnet crumpled as a result of the impact with the tree and vegetation. The passenger side wing mirror has also come loose of the vehicle.
UPDATE @ 12:59 – Island Echo can confirm that a 20-year-old man from Wootton has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after crashing his car into the roundabout in the early hours of this morning.
Hampshire Constabulary was called to the incident at 02:23.
The man remains in custody at this time.

Some epic driving there doesn’t look like they even tried to take the roundabout
Maybe the driver was trying to iaunch over roundabout but deffinently failed.
Spare wheel on the front. Shame they are nice little run abouts.
Isn’t that the same place someone binned it last year? XD
How does this keep happening! its every day, cars on their roofs, crashes, etc.
We are not safe on our roads anymore because of unsafe driving, I see it every time I go out.
We have to have speed cameras to slow people down. I know people don’t like it, me included but how else can this be regulated.
straight to Cliftongrade for a date with the crusher and no arguments.
This is now a regular event, it is often stated the Island is a number of years behind the rest of the country in its way of life, the Island has often been seen as a haven away from the crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and drugs that were seen as rife in mainland Britain.
By definition it was only a matter of time! sadly that time has come and we can’t forget the concrete jungle the mainland is so often called, with large parts of the Island being built on at an alarming pace it is starting to resemble a concrete jungle.
What we now require is investment to at least make this Island the best it can be not the worst!
At least the worthless waste of air hit a roundabout rather than a car coming the other way.
Can’t park your car there mate
Drink driving should be regarded the same as gun crime, in as much as you are in possession of a weapon that can cause damage, injury or death. Therefore the sentences imposed should reflect this, not a driving ban and points!
