An atmospheric picture of Gosport at sunset, taken from the Bridge of Wightlink’s ferry St Clare in Portsmouth, is on the cover of the ferry company’s 2025 calendar.
The colourful image won maximum votes from Wightlink’s panel of judges and Jerry was asked to choose the charity to benefit from sales of next year’s desk calendar at all ports and on car ferries.
The Captain has nominated Safer Waves, which supports merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual violence or harassment or gender discrimination. This is one of the charities chosen by Wightlink staff to benefit from fundraising.
Photographer, Captain Jerry Saltonstall, has said:
“You always get the best views of the Solent from our ferries and FastCats.
“We were preparing to start our journey to Fishbourne one evening when I noticed the spectacular sunset and immediately grabbed my phone.”
His talented colleagues Amanda Freemantle, Josh Jerram, Ben Rue, Louise Lea, Valerio Collyer, Charlotte Windsor, Brian Smith, Martin Knop and Sophie Tilley also contributed amazing Solent views for the calendar.

Great to see, Gosport is on the up.
Well judging by their breakdown record he had plenty of time to take his pictures.
I guess they got that photo when the ferry was out of service due to ‘technical issues’, being repaired or awaiting the return to work of a vital crew member?
Maybe the vital crew member took the photo.
Is Jerry the Vital crew member?, don’t tell Tom
Lol
It was a wonder that a critical crew member wasn’t off sick
makes sure he’s on the ferry for the photos though
beggers belief
