A GoFundMe page has been set up to help support a young Newport family after their flat was ravaged by fire yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
Georgina, Danny and their 2 children – aged just 4 and 2 – have been left displaced as a result of the fire at Bluebell Meadows, which has left them with nothing but the clothes on their back.
As first reported by Island Echo, fire crews from Newport and Cowes were mobilised to Godric Road shortly after 14:00 after a fire broke out in a 1st floor flat.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus used 1 single hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze before using positive pressure ventilation to rid the property of smoke. Charred marks have been left visible where the flames licked the windows.
No one was injured in the incident with the whole block safely evacuated.
However, the blaze destroyed nearly all of the family’s belongings including their furniture and electrical goods, leaving them with nothing. The entire kitchen and living room were destroyed along with precious keepsakes, memories and toys belonging to the kids.
In response, wider family members have launched a GoFundMe in an attempt to raise some funds to help purchase essential and non-essential items that were destroyed by the blaze. Almost £2,000 has been raised so far.
Julie Spink, who has organised the fundraiser, has said:
“Please help them get back on their feet as quickly as possible. At the moment they only have their nightclothes and no shoes to wear. Little Darcie is worried about her new bed and goodness knows what else. What an awful, heart-wrenching situation to be in.
“Please help if you can with any amount at all. We’d be so grateful.”

Did they not have any home/house insurance. Sorry to sound harsh but most people do. Mortgage companies insist that you have to.
I’m pretty sure their insurance will cover all that.
Contents insurance will cover this. For emergency food, clothing and furniture, there’s Ventnor Baby Box, Cowes Foodbank, and the Storeroom in Cowes. Between these 3 organisations that so many on here run down on here, as they think it’s for their own made up fantasies of being on benefits you rake in £50,000 a year minimum, says so in the Daily Fail, they can receive all they need until they get sorted.

Luckily and touch wood I’ve never had to make a claim. I imagine the Insurance Company are not going to cough up immediately, they’ll want a full report into the incidence before the claimant is reimbursed. Not much help to a family in immediate need.
Rot, the fire brigade will issue a number of the incident which allows insurance companies to fund the emergency needs of such people.
Cake and eat it seems to be the order of the day here.
They are clearly using the children to pull the gullible Islanders heart strings to enrichen themselves at the ‘nice but dim’s’ expense.
The insurance will pay for everything and likely more besides and new for old, all expenses met too.
So after a free holiday + imo.
Many dim will give as ‘giving’ makes poor people ‘feel’ richer despite the receiver of that charity not always being as ‘deserving’ as the kindly assumed.
Still others choice but I smell greed not need.

While I’m not against crowdfunding in principle – i.e. life saving medical treatment our bankrupt NHS cannot provide is a warranted example – to replace insurance claim with public appeal – come on, it’s totally absurd.
Glad I just read this, was just getting some quotes for my home insurance renewal and thought, I don’t need it now we have “go fund me” that will save me a few hundred quid, best go book that holiday to Benidorm

The go fund me page was not set up by the family in the fire themselves.
They do not want people to just hand them money or items to make them rich, they are not using the children as some kind of guilt trip. They are merely just surviving for the time being, with all the kind help that they’ve received from family, friends and strangers.
They own the flat, are both in full time employment and are not ‘spongers’. ‘When’ the insurance company do whatever it is they do, they will able to start rebuilding their lives. All un needed donations will passed on to others in immediate need.
They really don’t need judgemental , opinionated idiots posting nasty and downright unnecessary comments.
so, with insurance cover and the fact that it will offer temp accommodation expenses – they shouldn’t need to rush to social media and expect others to give them money.
by all means ask family and friends, but since when did that need to be published on local media, with a link to a go fund me page in the hope that others would give them money.
and as for you teresa, by throwing insults at people on here, just creates an impression of a spiteful, bitter and twisted woman, that simply validates ever message that others have posted on here about insurance cover.
What are you basing this on ? Are they tenants ? What unnecessary luxuries are you talking about ? Did they not have insurance? Are they smokers ?
Furthermore, maybe unless you actually know the facts, you should find another family to judge !

I feel for the family, but they surely had insurance? If so, insurers would cover immediate costs to get the family clothed and off the streets wouldn’t they? I’d like to know because any one of us could face a situation like this. Are their insurers covering their immediate needs or not? I don’t think this is an unkind question, most of us have insurance specifically for this reason and I for one would like to know if their insurers are paying up, if not, why not and who are the insurers so that we can all avoid them.
NOT one post has been gloating or horrible.
People rightly are asking valid questions before handing over hard to get money now.
The sympathy soon is questioned when people are asked to fund others who they don’t know, or if this fire was started by gross negligence.
Either way, insurance will cover ALL the costs.
Also no-one has asked how come a new building didn’t have Smoke and Heat alarms fully functioning ?
Seems to me to people who may have been a little carelessand expected a flood of sympathy and money to issue forth, but times and attitudes have changed now people are in hardship themselves, and don’t wish to make others richer and then feel like a mug doing so.

I am sure all those kind but dim people giving monies they can likely ill afford to donate will be so pleased when the families ‘social media’ site shows them all basking in some exotic location whilst those giving shiver in their cold homes.

I know what it means Bob but all the people on here slagging off this family who have just had their flat burnt out are mostly the same horrible scum who slag off foreigners people on benefits and just about anyone else ( baring in mind they usually know absolutely nothing about the peoples personal circumstances) but that doesn’t stop them. To attack someone like that after they have just suffered such a tragedy is about as low as it gets.

Sorry but there some horrible comments here the family have lost everything, yes the insurance company will probably pay up but it ain’t going to be today is it , some of you should may be try be in there shoes see how you like it .
Caz tax credits making up wage to good amount, cheap council tax due to being on such, two lots of child allowance, free dental and prescriptions for the entire family, extra help with energy and food bills, free school meals, transport to school and uniforms, and insurance about to renew everything and a few thousand given by kind but gullible people.
So the shoes seem quite comfortable compared with many others, including many who gave I would wager.
