A road traffic collision at Rowborough Bridge has blocked the main road between Ryde and Brading tonight (Friday).
Emergency services are currently dealing with the incident having been called to the scene at around 23:30.
It’s thought a single vehicle has crashed into the bridge, causing significant damage to the small hatchback.
The road has been closed between Carpenters Road and Coach Lane, Brading. Motorists should divert either via St Helens and Bembridge – or via The Downs.
Southern Vectis Route 3 buses are diverting along Carpenters Road, through St Helens, Bembridge and Yaverland in both directions. This could be closed for the rest of tonight’s service.
UPDATE @ 07:45 – The driver of the car – believed to be an adult female – was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, but escaped any serious injury.
Police, fire and ambulance crews all attended the incident.
The road is open as normal this morning.

Having driven safely over that bendy bridge thousands of times, it’s only dangerous if you try it at 40mph…(actually it’s so sharp, 20mph is a sensible safe speed). The only problems I have with it is when drivers come over it towards you at high speed over the centre line!

Amazing how 99999% of us has managed the ‘angle’ for scores of years with cars having worse steering, brakes, headlights, tyres and suspension than NOW.

Wet roads speed and dark with no street lights and young driver can be a recipe for a crash
She did she was doing about 40/ odd witch is well in limits but couldnt break to slow down any more as her breaks ffed up, thats not her fault… now can all you judgemental ass holes keep your mouth shuts and leave it to us whos dealing with it, not that we have to answer to any of you
