Lengthy delays are being seen on Horsebridge Hill on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Tuesday).
Traffic in the area is very busy due to a burst water main at the bottom of the hill opposite the bus stop.
Water can be seen running down the road and some homes and businesses in the area are currently without water.
Southern Water engineers are currently on site.
Those heading into Newport are facing significant disruption with delays as far as Northwood Garage, whilst delays for people travelling to Cowes can be seen from just past St Mary’s Roundabout.
Southern Vectis has advised of delays on their Route 1 service until the issue has been resolved.
UPDATE @ 14:41 – Island Roads is advising motorists to allow additional time for journeys between Newport and Cowes due to the ongoing works by Southern Water.
While the works are being carried out by Southern Water under emergency powers, Island Roads has asked the utility company to ensure traffic lights at the site are controlled manually between 06:30 and 19:00 in order to reduce disruption.
Southern Water has until the end of Thursday to complete the work under its existing permit.
