The smell of BBQ smoke will soon fill a former cattle shed on the outskirts of Brading, as Nunwell Home Farm, Heron, Wight Knuckle Brewery and Wight Whisky join forces to create a weekly social event to showcase the best in local produce, talent and community. Braai – the South African name for a BBQ – will soon be opening up at New Farm, Brading, where guests will be able to sample locally raised meat and vegetables cooked over natural fire, whilst drinking expertly crafted beer and whiskey – all within the picturesque settings of the Nunwell estate. Amazing food, drinks and live entertainment will be available on Friday evenings, all day on Saturday and on Sunday afternoons from 20th July until October. Guests will be given a taste of the Island using locally sourced produce, set within a relaxed, rural atmosphere with hay bales, trestle tables and festoon lighting aplenty. The produce will come from Francesca Cooper and Hollie Fallick, a duo who have always had a passion for the land, soil and growing food. They farm 370 acres of the Nunwell Estate and will be supplying the delicious meat to be cooked at Braai.
The wood-fire cook out will be operated by Heron IOW. It’s Heron’s chef Alex Kimber who will bring his real passion for the simple art of cooking over flame to all this Summer. Wight Knuckle Brewery’s George, Edward and Fergus Bristow have built up a reputation for all things craft and recently moved their operations from Bembridge to New Farm. They’ve joined the partnership and will be supplying guests with their fantastic range of products. Wight Whisky – a new brand yet to be launched on the Island – will be offering something a little different to local ales… Working closely with other businesses, the Gregg family are creating Island history by producing the first-ever whisky brand born on the Isle of Wight. Blended whisky is expected shortly, with a single malt by 2027. The whisky will be included in the marinades too! The venue has been made possible thanks to landowner Robert Oglander, who spends a great deal of time in South Africa and has always dreamt of replicating his love of the braai culture back on the Isle of Wight. Great I always thought that something like this was badly needed on the Island. Sure to be a success
Fire , bbq, hay bales, alcohol, what could possibly go wrong ??
can say that about anything: island trashy newspaper, closed-minded individuals and a comment section. What could go wrong?
Fantastic wish all well in this adventure, just what is needed something new for the island.
