The driver and passenger of a Range Rover had to climb out through the boot of their vehicle after becoming wedged between a lorry and a hedge near Godshill earlier this morning (Wednesday).
Emergency services were called to Whitwell Road at around 09:30 to reports of a 2-vehicle collision involving a car and a lorry.
Police, fire and ambulance crews all responded amid fears 2 people were trapped inside a Range Rover Evoque. However, it soon transpired that the male and female had self-extricated by the time crews arrived on scene by climbing out through the rear of the car.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service quickly diverted resources to another road traffic collision in Brading.
Island Echo understands the crash occurred when the 2 vehicles met on a tight section of carriageway, with the Evoque left with nowhere to go. As a result, the car became wedged.
The incident occurred between the junctions of Roud Road and Sheepwash Lane.
Traffic was being diverted locally for a time, but the road has since reopened following recovery of the car.
This is what happens when you think you shouldn’t have to give way or make room for a lorry!
I always thought Range Rover drivers were muppets…Wait, it might have been the lorry driver that was a muppet…
Another driver who can’t reverse! No matter who is at fault it is plain to see that simply reversing would have prevented a write off and a bollocking from a boss. Pair of numpties.
The problem is no Numpty wants to give way
to another Numpty.
We have all met arrogant drivers who drive past passing places. Any normal person would have given the lorry the right of way…
Why?
My experience of this road has been that arrogant ‘large car/SUV drivers refuse to back down and appear to insist that they shouldn’t be the ones to reverse.
Honestly , its easier for all if in this instance the smaller vehicle reversed.
It’s not rocket science is it
If I had a pound for all the Numpty moves motorists
were making today I would be a Millionaire by the end
of the year.
I suppose they are blaming the hot weather, not their
crap driving.
Many of the Islands Roads are too small for
average size cars to pass each other yet alone
large vehicles and lorries.
When extra large vehicles are delivering
machinery / plant etc, they should have an escort
to assist like they do when delivering caravans.
Much safer for everyone.
Do shut up
It is Numpty’s like you who are ruining the
Island.
Island Numpty’s don’t like to hear the truth,
maybe that is what they teach you in schools
on the island.
Us Northerners know right from wrong!
Oh, you had to be a know-it-all northerner, didn’t you? Experts in spouting bollocks and educating themselves in public.
Better than a southern numpty like yourself.
Have you heard yourself, “Us northerners”. What a pillock.
Not many vehicles have internal rear door releases. They were lucky.
definitely muppets on both accounts although the range rover should have got out of the way as its more capable.
Is there not a road restriction width ,should that lorry be there in the first place , and yes agree one should of reversed or something,, numpties both of them
The Lorry shouldn’t be there unless a patrol
travels in front.
There is no health and safety on this clueless island.
How many times do you see a banksman working with
drivers of large vehicles.
“The answer is hardly ever”
Companies don’t want to pay the extra wage bill!
Safety should come first, not on the Isle of Wight.
That road has NO width or weight restriction on it – So the HGV has every right to be there
Where did you learn English?
The phrase is “should have” and not “should of“.
Who cares what Melly says, we know what
Melly means.
We don’t need English teachers like yourself
correcting people.
At our useless state schools.
