Motorists are experiencing heavy delays through Brading this morning (Wednesday) following a 2-vehicle crash.
Emergency service personnel from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were first called to the scene on New Road at around 09:45, following reports of a 2-vehicle collision.
At the scene, a Nissan Juke travelling towards Sandown has collided with a Ford Transit van travelling in the opposite direction. The Juke is on the wrong side of the road.
The occupants of the Nissan are receiving medical attention in the back of an ambulance. The driver of the van has escaped injury.
New Road is currently blocked in both directions between Station Road and Yarbridge Cross.
Southern Vectis Route 2 and 3 buses are diverting via St Helens, Bembridge and Yaverland in both directions until further notice. At least 2 buses are stuck within the road closure, unable to turn around.
As a result of the local diversion, traffic in and around the area – especially on The Mall – is very heavy.
Motorists are advised to avoid the scene for the time being.
UPDATE @ 11:22 – Police have now closed access to Brading from Ryde with traffic being diverted away from the Coach Lane Roundabout. This is to ease congestion on The Mall.
Recovery of the vehicles is underway and New Road is expected to reopen shortly.
UPDATE @ 11:40 – New Road has re-opened in both directions.
Police have confirmed no injuries have been reported, but the driver of the Juke presented as unwell and has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
[…] DELAYS ON MAIN ROAD THROUGH BRADING FOLLOWING 2-VEHICLE CRASH […]
I drove along Brading Road this evening and I noticed
rubble from the accident left on the pavement
Does no one clear up the debris!!
Also why is there always a vehicle parked on
DoubleYellow Lines along this Road
where are the Councils Civil Enforcement Officers.
Looks like this is another one who thinks they shouldn’t have to give way, and pulled out round the parked delivery van into the path of some poor sod coming the other way
You have summed it up perfectly
No Numpty wants to wait, instead they choose
to risk theirs and other persons lives by pulling out
into the path of oncoming traffic.
The sooner this backward island installs Camera’s
to catch these selfish inconsiderate B’stards the better.
It makes me sick.
