Conservative parliamentary candidate for Isle of Wight West, Bob Seely, has welcomed a plan from his party to put even more police on the streets. In the run-up to a General Election on 4th July, the Conservatives have set out their plans to recruit 8,000 new full-time police officers with full powers of arrest – more than doubling the number Labour has pledged. The plan means the new officers will focus solely on policing their local beat, boosting the visible police presence in their area, cutting crime and helping people feel safer. In addition, Hotspot Policing will be rolled out to all police forces to cut anti-social behaviour. Bob said:
“I welcome the news that, under the Conservatives, we will see even more police officers returned to our streets. “Our police work incredibly hard to keep our communities safe, and this boost will enable them to do even more. “Since 2019, the Conservative government has recruited 200,000 additional officers. Now, we will see a further 8,000 out on the beat. “Working with our excellent Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones, we have already delivered: 30 additional police officers on the Island, a named local bobby for every Island community, returned dedicated Roads Traffic Police officers to the Island and opened up a new police station in Cowes. “Now, we want to do even more to tackle the crimes that disrupt local communities and cause people to feel unsafe. “We know what people want from local policing and we have plans in place to deliver it.”
Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones said:
“Over the last 3 years I have worked closely with Bob to make the Island safer. Putting an end to Anti-Social-Behaviour, shoplifting and people driving dangerously on Island roads has been a priority. “Bob has been a strong and effective voice, making sure that both the police and members of the government understand the unique pressures of the Isle of Wight. That’s what I’m backing Bob to be your next MP for Isle of West.”
The Conservatives say they will deliver their plan by:
- Recruiting 8,000 new fully warranted police officers as part of a new neighbourhood policing uplift programme. We will build on the success of our Police Uplift Programme that has delivered 20,000 more police since 2019 by recruiting an additional 8,000 police officers with the full power of arrest – that means an additional police officer for every ward in England and Wales.
- Ensuring that these new officers are focused on their local neighbourhoods. These officers will work as part of existing neighbourhood teams, which will ensure every neighbourhood will have a genuine and more continuous police officer coverage. We will also require forces not to offset these additional officers by diverting police officers, already dedicated to neighbourhood duties, to other purposes.
- Rolling out Hotspot Policing to all police forces to cut anti-social behaviour. We will roll out our successful hotspot policing programme across the whole of England and Wales over the next Parliament. This will ensure that an additional 3 to 4.5 million hours of patrolling can take place in hundreds of hotspots, proving further protection against anti-social behaviour and serious violence. Anti-social behaviour is also down by nearly 50% in some hotspot areas.

Police officer numbers have fallen by 20,000 since the tories took office!
This is how the Tories operate. They cut taxes on this and increase them on that. They cut police numbers and then promise to increase them next time. They cut funding for the NHS and then promise to increase funding next time. All they ever do is move the funding around and try to fool us into thinking we are better off when we are not. The process is attritional and it leads to a slow, miserable decline. They are totally bereft of ideas about how to improve our lives because they just don’t care. The status quo suits them fine while most people are struggling to survive. Tories are clueless and totally out of touch with the people in this country and their needs.
Because our prisons are not only filled with our own, but now the second generation of imm’s numerous offspring, and plenty of recently ‘arrived’ there is no deterrent as Police can ‘arrest’ offenders, but courts are now pressured not to jail anything but the very worst.
So most crimes, warnings, tiny fines, community service etc etc, as you all know, is all that is given.
To a low life thug, the warnings mean ‘weakness’ the fines are paid if at all over months as ‘alleged’ to be on the bread line anyway, and community service, IF they turn up, is a half arsed, smoking, phone looking, arriving late, going off early, as they know that the fool in charge of them can’t ‘touch’ them. Vote Reform or put up with it all.
Do you also think that Britain would be better off now if we had accepted Hitlers offer of neutrality and that Churchill was abysmal? Also, do you think women are the ‘sponging gender’?
Reform UK candidate apologises over Hitler neutrality comments – BBC News
“women are the ‘sponging gender’?” It appears to be the case. get a kid, get on benefits…. get another kid get more benefits+ free flat. My G,daughter is a case in point, sady. Plenty of money for everything including a nice car on mobility allowance because she’s ‘frightened’ to go on public transport. Happy to fly to Amsterdam for a girlie weekend….
Or, in Tory-speak: “even more”.
What a lovely couple…
Where is council tax precept for SHADO then? Good to see that is still a free service.
SHADO does not exist, remember? Perhaps you need another dose of memory medication?
More empty promises from the Tories…
Remember Boris’ £350 Million per week,.. painted large on the side of a bus,,. & the promise that it would be spent on the NHS if we voted to leave the EU…
well that really happened didn’t it,..
Boris & his ‘Get Brexit Done” slogan…. the only ones who were ‘done’ were the British Public
& Truss,.. unelected PM, who within days had crashed the economy, by giving massive tax cuts to the ultra rich.
& Sunak,.. who massively disrespected our fallen D-Day heroes, by leaving the commemorations early to do a political ‘publicity’ interview
They’re all blatant liars
Johnson, Truss, Sunak,.. they all work really hard to put the CON in CONservative…
The Dynamic Duo return .. god help us .. and more BS from the CONs The CONs only take , they do not give ..
She states ” that is why I am backing Bob as the iow mp ” obvious a Tory thoroughbred and not impartial as she should be.
Also what does 8,000 extra police officers with FULL ARRESTING POWERS Mean, don’t they all have that capability ?
Why is our Police Commissioner allowed to “back” any politician? Should be instantly sacked!
Police Commissioner is a political post (unfortunately), that’s why.
The PCC is a non-political post. She can stand on a party political ticket but is expected to behave in a fair and impartial manner once in post.
Phew, I feel so much safer now
“Since 2019, the Conservative government has recruited 200,000 additional officers.”
Surely a typo. Or 180000 or so have left.
What a load of B/S. You can tell it’s vote time can’t you? 8000 poloce officers on the streets. How many of them are going to be here on the Island? and it was the tories that got rid of the ones we did have. How many of them are just going to walk right past a crime that is happenig that is clear to everyone else? It’s the old same old same old bo**ocks that you can’t believe until you see it tackticks and don’t be surprised if you never do. Are they going to do spot checks on speeding, noisy boy racers to see if their insurance policy (if they even have one that is) matches the alterations on the car and for drug/swill driving? Easier to nick someone with a brake light out isn’t it.
All gimmicks and BS. Could have done it whilst in office, but cut numbers, then re hired after public fury. Courts awash with beaurocracy and soft on crime.
What a couple of Squares…
He will welcome it for sure to get people thinking “I will vote for him” But there is only so many lies and amount of deceitful behaviour people can take, he wants to pollute our seas, he wants to build on fields and green areas, he want to raise the retirement age, he wants less fire safety in your rented properties, don’t believe it, then have a look here.

Bungling Bob is finished on the island this time around.
Pop up Bob. He’s very welcoming isn’t he? He’s welcomed a lot of things in this past few weeks.
Recruiting 8000 new officers is only part of the solution. We are constantly being told by the police commissioner and the government that they have recruited more officers. What they don’t say is how many experienced officers are leaving the force due to dissatisfaction with the way the force is managed. 8000 new officers recruited minus possibly 8000 leaving equals no extra police, and more a inexperienced force
It’s sausage-o-clock Seely. Times up. The party’s over, the charcoal’s gone cold. You’ve had fourteen years and nobody other than Tory chums is any better off. Do you really think anyone wants five more years of Tory stagnation?
Guess what there’s a promise promise promise election coming up.
For goodness sake Bob just stop it , it’s starting to look as if you are desperate
More Porky Pies.
Don’t tell me, Donna will be wanting more of our Council tax money!
Donna ‘photo opportunity’ Jones
The Tories shoud rename themselves “The Planning Party”. All we ever hear about are plans, we never see any positive action despite 14 years in government. They have decimated the police both numbers and experience and now expect a pat on the back and another five years in government for “planning” to increase numbers. All these claims are just so much garbage that they know they will never have to deliver because they will frankly be lucky to even be the official Opposition. Neither the MP nor the PCC has achieved anything constructive but rather have grabbed photo opportunities and trumpeted “plans”.
We asked for local police stations to reopen – they delivered just one that opens a coupke of hours a week.
We asked for local policing – they gave us a few names allocated up to half the island in some cases.
We asked for police on the streets investigating local crime – they gave us cops in cars focussed on motorists.
Now they talk about 8000 officers, conveniently forgetting to add that they are for the whole country when they know that most will end up in London and that figure is more than offset by the number of experienced officers already lost.
No one is fooled Bob and Donna.
No one.
