The Island’s MP met with farming minister Mark Spencer this week to press the Island’s case for a small abattoir to be established here. Currently, most livestock is taken from the Isle of Wight to an abattoir on the mainland, but Bob Seely explained to the Minister of State for Food, Farming and Fisheries that it is not a long-term solution for the Island. Bob is looking to work with the Island’s National Farmers Union and livestock farmers to deliver a small abattoir locally. Mr Seely has said:
“I wanted to catch up with the minister to reiterate the Island’s case for a small abattoir so that we can keep livestock on the Island, which is more humane, reduce food miles and make it easier to ensure that meat sold as Isle of Wight meat is actually from the Island. “The Minister is keen to hear our case and he’s open to ideas so I’m organising a meeting with our NFU and livestock farmers at the earliest opportunity so that we can go back to him with a clear position. “I’m eager to move this forward and see what can practically be done to deliver some kind of slaughter facility on the Island that meets the needs of Island farmers.”
Mr Seely will be meeting with Island farmers and NFU members soon.

Bob hasn’t got a clue. Slaughter houses are private businesses rather than government facilities. Many small abattoirs have been forced to close in recent years due to regulatory and financial burdens making them non-viable. There are now less than 50 small red meat abattoirs left in the UK and one would not be viable on the island. Mobile slaughter units are a better idea and much easier for farmers.
That’s why he has picked this to try and bs the public that he is trying to help the island, when he knows just what you have said is right! He’s as trustworthy as a dog with rabies!
Used to be a slaughter House in Worsley Road, Newport.
I didn’t realize these mobile versions existed but it sounds like a sensible option. Not a carnivore personally but if they were less barbaric than typical abbatoirs, maybe using coma inducing gases for example, it seems a good all round option.Fifty per cent of the animal trauma would diminish through cattle-truck transportation and maybe 30 per cent with the actual slaughter process?
Yes far less traumatic for the animals. Eliminates the stress of being ferried to the mainland and less work for farmers too.
Too little too late seeley, you have done feck all
p45 coming soon!
Bob finally does some work for the Isle of Wight, making full size sausages a priority before the next general election
Well not really Bob only admits to half a sausage usually…
We need one here for sure.
You are simply going down the Soylent Green route. Maybe later but not now.
Preferably attatched to the HOC.
Pop ups electioneering again .. nothing here folks, other than the editors weekly pop up Bob stories .. dull as dishwater news
And who was in control of the island when the old one closed down? The Tories, the MP of the time was too busy getting £100k from us for his new kitchen to stop it from being closed.
That’s such a help Fred, Thankyou
If Dr Seely MBE MP is on the cae, no need to worry!
Spiritual masters say cows should not be slaughtered. Regardless of the false arguments of the deception leaders.
I presume he thinks most people are stupid… It’s obvious why he’s trying to scramble into the media as much as possible, I just hope stupid people aren’t taken in by it.
Surely he should have talked to the Island farmers first so he knew what he was talking about. Typical Sealy arse ways round!
A local abattoir?
Why.
What’s wrong with being able to use a vehicle at will to take livestock to one on the mainland?
Seems a bit 15 minute city to me.
It’s Bob’s plan to control how we move livestock.
Down with this plan!
… This item really makes one think of all the poor frightened, sentient creatures lined up, scared stiff, knowing they’re about to be killed. And soon perhaps, right here.
Better get it built soon as the Tory’s will be slaughtered at the next election, that will save Bob having to wait for a cancelled ferry to leave the island.
If you see what the WEF are doing to Farmers around the world
only a matter of time before the UKs farming industry is going to be
Targeted
Jumping into bed with the NFU to secure the votes of the island farming community. Come on Bob don’t talk crap about helping the island out, you only want to help yourself out like all politicians.
