A blaze has destroyed a static caravan at a remote smallholding near Lake – a location notorious for a murder that took place there less than 3 years ago.
Firefighters have worked to extinguish the blaze off a byway to the rear of Landguard Holiday Park, the bright orange glow of which could be seen from miles around.
The fire has destroyed the mobile home but the swift actions of 4 crews from Shanklin, Sandown, Ryde and Ventnor has prevented the situation from escalating.
3 fire appliances are on scene alongside the water carrier from Ventnor – the second shout of the night for the South Wight team who were deployed to a fire in the open at Brook.
2 hose reel jets and 6 breathing apparatus have been used to extinguish the fire.
Engineers from SGN have been called out to isolate any gas mains and ensure the area is safe.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is now standing down from the incident.
It was in May 2020 that a local Councillor was murdered on land at the smallholding.
