The driver of an Audi that careered off the road and rolled into a field on The Downs last night (Saturday) has escaped any serious injury.
It was shortly before 20:00 that emergency services were called to The Downs Road, near the junction with Newport Shute, to reports that a vehicle had come off the road, as first reported by Island Echo.
Police arrived on scene to find an Audi A3 Sport had left the road on the wrong side of the carriageway, gone over a fence and then rolled a short distance into a field.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were dispatched to check over the driver, who managed to walk away from the wreckage.
The driver escaped with minor injuries, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed.
Debris was spewn across the field as the car dug in and rolled over.
The red Audi – which has damage on every panel – remains in situ this morning with recovery to take place at a later date. Police aware stickers have been placed on the side window.
Too much speed, not enough skill. Typical on the Island these days.
You can say that again.
Thesedays the island is full of uneducated pissed/drugged up
motorists on their mobile phones speeding around the island.
None of them know the highway code.
Cars are too safe nowadays! No lesson has been learnt by the lack of speed deterring injuries. Whoever it is that was driving will boast to his/her friends that he/she is indestructible and not that he/she has not got the basics skills to safely drive a car in a sensible manner conducive with a considerate road user.
You’re wrong…. zero skill and probably off his/her head.
Vorsprung durch Techniq
Lol
Probably driving in the same arse way that the BMW driver in Brading High Street was, that when I gave way to the bus, he had to over take me
And Brading is another Fake 20mph Street
bit like Godshill High Street
The Dopey Council think putting up 20mph
signs will slow people down
THE NUMPTY’S SPEEDING CANNOT READ
hence needing speed Camera’s and traffic humps.
Come on IW Council do what we are paying you to do
MAKE OUR ROADS SAFE
Lol
But…but then you’d have absolutely nothing to comment on. It’s fast becoming a sport to see how many times a week you can reduce the conversation to your pet topic of 20mph on all roads. Lol.
It is the only way to make uneducated Numpty’s
slow down.
I think the evidence proves that your method is ineffective.
you’ve been wittering on about 20mph limits for so long now,.. but it doesn’t seem to have made the slightist bit of difference!
Hardly a sport. Just watching a dribbling Middle Englander with bad grammar ranting incoherently
If Numpty’s stopped speeding I would not have to
dribble.
Lol
Only a matter of time before the Numpty run
Council realise 20mph is sensible for the island.
As I have said on more than one occasion, Get in touch directly with the council by any means and put your case directly to them, as the councillors might not be able to read?
[…] AUDI MANAGE THAT? CAR ROLLS OFF ROAD AND INTO FIELD ON THE DOWNS […]
Let’s see. From the report we can tell that the driver wasn’t arrested, meaning that no drink or drugs were suspected (they would have tested) and he also wasn’t arrested for dangerous driving so we can rule speeding out too. Neither did he have a heart attack, so that leaves what? Swerving to avoid something in the road maybe? Sneezing? Blinded by oncoming lights? Wind your necks in, put your pitchforks away, sometimes accidents are just that…accidents.
Common sense at last, well done.
In the midst of so many scathing comments, dare I risk being labelled a bleeding heart softy leftist to say what a blessing it is that the driver walked away from this and was hopefully uninjured? Have we really lost perspective to such an extend that we can no longer see that the important thing is that no one was injured and the car is just a bit of metal that can be repaired or replaced?
Edgar of Nine makes a good point.A couple of generations ago and sitting in a sluggish, noisy, draughty, rattling and sharp-edged box and bouncing about with no seat belt, the driver was not insulated from the fact he was driving a potential lethal machine. It was even more so in the brewers dray I drove. Fifty miles an hour could seem like a very risky ton. Nowadays the driver is in a cocoon with performance levels we could only have dreamed of. Add drink and/or drugs and it’s no wonder some young drivers think they are immortal. Looking at road death rates per millions of cars on the road now and then and how this driver walked away from what would have been a very serious incident in my day, one can see why they may have no fear and often no sense or sensinility.
Very true.
