2 men in their 20s have been arrested after police were called to a public order incident in Newport in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Several units responded to Trafalgar Road at 00:21 after reports of a group of people fighting in the street. Local residents also reported hearing a series of shouts and loud bangs.
The windscreen of a grey Ford was also badly damaged during the incident, with a vehicle recovery service needed to transport the vehicle from the pavement outside Jewson’s.
A 26-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, criminal damage, and using threatening/abusive with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence.
A 28-year-old man from Newport has also been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
Both men were taken to Newport Police Station and remain there in custody at this time.

Yes and before bodycams if a police officer was assaulted..they could do the same back..since bodycams the scum can kick punch spit and bite officers..maybe get few hours community service which they may half heartedly turn up to stand around smoking and fine they wont pay..and hero worshipped by scum mates..police do anything but minimal force loses their job..
Young people (invariably) on the way back from the pubs to the council estate.
I know they are businesses, but why were they continued to be sold drinks ? I hope this will be followed up.
It’s mainly down to lack of discipline in their upbringing, so they really need it now from the courts..some hope!
