Flying doctors from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are responding to a medical emergency in the West Wight this afternoon (Thursday).
The distinctive yellow and green helicopter touched down on open land near to Hurst Point View at around 16:30 having been alerted to the developing situation just after 16:00.
The air ambulance crew have proceeded to their final destination on foot and are being supported by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, which has an ambulance crew and operational commander on scene.
UPDATE @ 17:44 – Helimed 56 has now taken off from Totland and is returning to base in Andover. The air ambulance has not been required to airlift the patient to a mainland hospital on this occasion.
UPDATE @ 20:05 – It has been confirmed that a young girl has suffered potentially serious injuries after falling whilst jumping from a tree in the area of Turf Walk/Stokes Green.
She has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance and is being further assessed and treated by doctors.
