The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed high upon Chillerton Down this afternoon (Sunday) to provide emergency medical assistance to an injured paraglider.
Flying doctors touched down on the downland shortly before 15:45, providing assistance to local crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo is told that paragliders have been flying in the area for most of the day, although it is unclear at this stage if this has any connection to the medical emergency.
UPDATE @ 16:41 – It has been confirmed that a paraglider has fallen from a height of around 30ft.
Paramedics and doctors remain on scene at this time, working to assess and treat the paraglider’s injuries.
It’s possible that the high flyer will be airlifted to Southampton’s Major Trauma Centre.
UPDATE @ 17:06 – The casualty has been flown directly to Southampton General Hospital for treatment, bringing the incident to a close.
