Age UK met with Joe Robertson MP, for Isle of Wight East, last week, completing a crucial round of engagement with the Isle of Wight’s parliamentary representatives.
Having previously welcomed Richard Quigley, MP for Isle of Wight West, to its offices last month, the charity has now successfully briefed both MPs on the critical challenges and opportunities facing older residents across the Isle of Wight.
During Friday’s meeting, Chair of Trustees Lorraine Buckman, Chief Officer Maria Bunce and Marketing and Digital Communications Officer Joe Hodgkinson discussed with Mr Robertson the vital preventative services the charity provides, from dementia support to digital inclusion and the unique pressures of the Isle of Wight’s demographic landscape.
The group also discussed broader issues affecting the Isle of Wight’s older population, including increasing ferry costs and the ongoing crisis in social care.
With the Isle of Wight divided into 2 constituencies, Age UK Isle of Wight views the engagement of both MPs as essential to ensuring no older person on the Isle of Wight is left behind.
Maria Bunce, Chief Officer at Age UK Isle of Wight, has said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Joe Robertson today, following our productive meeting with Richard Quigley earlier this year.
“Securing the attention of both our MPs is a significant step forward. It allows us to present a united front in Westminster regarding the need for sustainable funding for social care and on helping share the positive work we do on the Island as a local Independent Charity.”
Joe Robertson MP has said:
“It was incredibly helpful to sit down with the team at Age UK Isle of Wight today.
“As a fully independent local charity, every penny they raise stays right here on the Island, and the scale and variety of the support they provide to our older residents is remarkable. I look forward to working together with them in the future.”

Oh dear Jo and Wrigley yes man Quigley the clock is ticking for change .Latest IOW POLLS have reform on 43% west wight and 42% east wight vs Jo. Currently on21%and Squigely on17% Tik tok tik tok.
It is the uneducated numpties who voted Brexit
even though they didn’t know exactly what they were voting
for, who are voting Reform.
They think Reform will stop the boats, Reform couldn’t
stop a bus at a bus stop.
Reform is the old Tory party full of Tory rejects, many of
whom are responsible for the state of the country now.
We are living in 2026, doesn’t matter where a person
is born, they have rights.
Have to say for once I totally agree with you I always will remember because Ng at work the morning after Brexit result ,and so many she’ll shocked people but when you asked “did you vote’99% said no they thought others would!!reality check people you are others!.our vets went, our nurses ,dentistsand GPS all went back to Europe and there was not one back up plan in place ,and why the hell would they want to come back
They have Fcuked up our countries prospects
ruined our childrens and their childrens futures
and have also affected us moving to Spain etc.
They thought it was a clever move, but it wasn’t
The same idiots now vote Reform
Some people are so gullible, you cannot help them.
Over half the UK population are uneducated numpties where are you getting your facts from? Seen loads of reform voters stop and get on buses. You want all these illegal immigrants so you can pay double council tax and by the way if you have a spare room or garage we will get you to home half a dozen.
So you voted Brexit, what did it achieve!, fcuk all!
All the migrants have been coming to our shores
after the Brexit vote, before Brexit we did not have
a problem.
Keep dreaming
You did not say how many you are prepared to take.
How absolutely rude and pompous of you, whatever your political views it’s totally unacceptable to call people uneducated numpties. If you’ve got such a lot to say all the time why don’t you step away from your keyboard put yourself forward for election.
Too old to waste time.
Politics is all planned and controlled, if gives
people hope and makes people think they have a
say, sadly they don’t.
We have seen many examples of that, especially since
the pandemic.
But thanks for the thought.
Whilst I am in some sort of agreement with where you are leading with your comment, I would urge some uneasiness.
The Right (in both meanings of the word) would appear to be locked in a battle of the Egos (what else is new in politics eh?).
Farage slagging off Badenoch, Habib and Lowe scratching each others eyes out, whilst slagging of Farage and Badenoch.
I met Farage once in Shanklin in 2013. I was not impressed. He has the most to lose with this battle of the Egos.
Both Habib and Lowe strike me as a couple of chancers with little to no support.
Badenoch is dead in the water thanks to the idiot Eton mess that was Bozo Johnson, Theresa The Appeaser, Liz Truss and Fishy Rishi.
It is a given that Starmer the Granny Harmer is toast and Labour could not run a bath.
Unfortunately, the only people who will suffer from the behaviour of these fools is the majority of the electorate, who trust neither Tory or Labour and desperately want a political party who they can BELIEVE will do the right thing.
Fat chance!
And what do they actually do and at what cost?
