A high ropes sky trail, dino adventure crazy golf course, beach side broadwalk and pop-up entertainment stage are just some of the exciting new things planned for Sandham Gardens in Sandown.
The extensive plan to transform the seaside location on the corner of Fort Street and Culver Parade has been revealed today (Tuesday) as a consultation with local residents and businesses begins.
As well as a new aerial adventure and golf course, visitors to Sandown will be able to experience a Piazza with pop-up events and markets; retail kiosks; seasonal attractions such as a helter skelter; 2 new Petanque pitches and a London Routemaster Diner. There will also be a series of new beach huts installed and a ‘raised table’ across Culver Parade to the beach.
The playground, skate park and football pitch will all be retained by Sandown Town Council.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Heritage Great Britain has agreed a 50-year lease with Sandown Town Council to develop Sandham Gardens. The company already operate The Needles Landmark Attraction at Alum Bay.
Councillor Wayne Whittle, the Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Business Development has said:
“For many years Sandown has been passed over by investors so we welcome this partnership with Heritage Great Britain, which already has a proven track record of operating one of the Island’s premier attractions and some of the UK’s best loved landmarks.
“They are committed to keeping the gardens open and accessible for everyone to enjoy in the future and we are confident a regenerated Sandham Gardens will provide a boost and attract more investment to other parts of the town.”
