A fare-dodging passenger who refused to leave and became abusive to staff, before then fainting, has caused 60-minute delays on Wightlink’s Portsmouth-Fishbourne service this afternoon (Friday).
It’s said that the abusive woman tried to get on board the Victoria of Wight ferry without a ticket and was stopped by shoreside staff. However, she then managed to make her way on board before refusing to leave.
During the incident, the woman fainted – leading to a call for any medically trained passengers to make themselves known to staff.
Police were called and have since removed the woman from the vessel.
Wightlink is advising that due to the earlier incident customers may experience delays of up to 60 minutes.
Customers are being told to continue to check in on time for booked sailings as teams are working hard to return to the usual timetable.
I think there should be a way of detaining these passengers, without having to cause any disruption to ferries.
Why should they keep her onboard if she is being abusive that is not fair on the staff they did the right thing by calling police to deal with this.
Do the police turn up immediately?

So misleading the media , my husband was on that ferry it was an elderly lady whom had dementia and couldn’t find he family member the abusive part was she kept telling the crew to get out of her house ! Poor thing was terrified she even tried to jump overboard xx

I feel sorry for the lady in question “ dementia “ is harsh . And good job Wight link for dodging the £5 passenger compensation by twisting the truth for the delay ! Shocking !
Out of interest as I haven’t looked at anything Wightlink have reported, however it is stated on here…

This is exactly why I posted as we witnessed the entire thing and it enraged me that the lies that were posted ! The poor lady was terrified . Then the police arrested her rather then seek medical assistance shocking
If she had Dementia she did well to get to the ferry at the right time on her own
