Island Roads are warning of delays in and around Newport today (Friday) due to the movement of an abnormal load.
A lorry is travelling across the Solent to transport a piece of equipment to the new Amey/Isle of Wight Council waste recycling centre on Forest Road.
Due to the size of the load, special arrangements are being made to ease its journey from the ferry to the site on the outskirts of Newport.
Motorists are advised that the slow moving vehicle will be travelling from Fishbourne, through Wootton to Fairlee Road and then Medina Way (dual carriageway) to Forest Road.
It is unknown what time this will be taking place.

it would be helpful if someone could update this with some idea of when it will be happening or if it’s already happened…
how can anyone plan to avoid the area if they don’t know when?
say I needed to get to the hospital for an apointment today. do I leave 2 hours early & get there 2 hours early & have to pay an extra 2 hours parking,… or do I not leave early & miss my appointment!
How’s it going to get through the zig-zag pedestrian crossing on Forest Road????
Drive over it !
They’ll probably (try to) take it through church-litten, carisbrooke & gunville,.. like they did with those mobile homes the other week LOL
But why is the time of this movement not known? In former times the abnormal load would have been escorted by the police. Why does that no longer happen (need I ask?).
