Over 70 homes were without water first thing this morning (Monday) after an 8-inch main ruptured in Binstead overnight.
The large pipe failed at Binstead Road, close to the junction with Ringwood Road, just after midnight.
Southern Water engineers have worked to repair the damaged section of pipe and the main was recharged by 10:00, restoring supplies to the homes and businesses affected.
Those living in the Binstead area may notice slight discolouration when they first use their taps. This will normally clear if you run the water for a few minutes.
Roadworks associated with the water main repair have caused delays in the Binstead area with Southern Vectis reporting delays of 15 minutes to Route 9 buses. The traffic management will be removed once the road has been fully reinstated.

More bad plumbing on the Island..ha ha, just joking
You may well be correct, Clare – or too much traffic.
A fixed link will sort that out
Well done to those who fixed supply, working a cold night and early morning.
Wait until over a thousand more homes are added to Ryde. The water mains are the same size. They just force more pressure through them causing some to burst. But the developers and councillors have made ‘enough’ to cover increased bills a thousand fold. Shame the rest of us won’t.
I like the way they say run water for few minutes to clear. Thus meaning a minimum of at least 3-4 minutes. On basis most supplies are on 24-36 litres a minute, that’s a minimum of 102 litres!!! That’s easily my daily consumption (if excluding my 2 bath days), yes I do wash. We had 4 water main bursts in Ryde alone last year and had to complete this task and then southern water had the audacity to say MY CONSUMPTION was up previous to last year and had the pleasure of BILLING ME FOR IT. Cheek!!!!
