3 people have been rescued after their boat capsized and sunk off Thorness Bay during a Cowes Week race earlier this afternoon (Saturday), resulting in an elderly man receiving a head injury.
The 3 crew were onboard a Solent Sunbeam, but thankfully they were all wearing lifejackets when they were thrown into the water.
The casualties were rescued by another yacht but Cowes RNLI lifeboat had already been tasked to the scene.
The lifeboat, which launched just before 14:00, took aboard the Sunbeam crew and made for Trinity Landing in Cowes Harbour.
An ambulance awaited the arrival of the injured gentleman to convey him to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport. As well as the head injury, it’s thought the man had swallowed sea water.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from The Needles and Ventnor were tasked to the incident also.

Past participle of “sink” = “sank”.
