2 children with head injuries have been transferred ashore for medical treatment thanks to the efforts of HMS Ranger and Yarmouth RNLI, with support from HM Coastguard and a local co-responder.
The situation began at around 10:30 this morning when a commercially-run experience RIB hit a large wave, resulting in 2 youngsters being thrown and suffering head injuries.
HMS Ranger, a coastal patrol vessel, was quickly able to provide assistance and took the causalities and 2 accompanying adults onboard.
Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat was then tasked to launch by HM Coastguard to rendezvous with the naval vessel in order to transfer the 2 children and 2 adults ashore to meet with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

The lifeboat returned to Yarmouth Harbour where The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were awaiting alongside Freshwater’s co-responder and 2 paramedic crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
It has been confirmed that 1 of the injured children has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport. The other was treated at the quayside.
