2-CAR SMASH CLOSES JUNCTION AT GUNVILLE

Police, fire and ambulance crews are in attendance at a 2-car crash on Forest Road on the outskirts of Newport this evening (Thursday). A Fiat 500 and another car have collided at the traffic light junction of Gunville Road and Forest Road, causing significant damage to both vehicles. Firefighters have worked to assist those involved from the wreckages and have now passed 2 casualties into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. The incident, which occurred just before 18:35, has seen fire crews from Newport and Ryde mobilised, as well as 2 ambulance crews and a rapid response paramedic. Forest Road has been closed by Police from the Gunville junction for traffic heading west, with all vehicles being diverted left into Gunville Road – which is closed in a northbound direction from Home Bargains. Forest Road remains open as normal for traffic heading east towards St Mary’s Junction. UPDATE @ 19:44 – The casualties have been conveyed the short distance to St Mary’s Hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening. Emergency services are now standing down from the incident but Police remain on scene as recovery of the vehicles involved is undertaken.
