A crash involving 2 cars is causing tailbacks at Apse Heath Roundabout this evening (Monday).
The incident, which occurred shortly before 17:15, has involved a Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Astra van.
Police are directing traffic past the scene of the crash.
The exit of Alverstone Road is partially blocked but motorists are able to pass.
No one appears to have been injured, although airbags have deployed.

I hate this roundabout as no-one seems to regard it as a roundabout, and just plough on through on the main road to lake. ignoring cars trying to turn into it. I bet there will be more crashes here and look out for the shop delivery lorry that parks right on the entrance to it, as cars are forced to go on the other side of the road to go right or left and have to hope nothing is turning round. Its truly horrible.
That roundabout is deadly. The pedestrian Crossing Likewise. The crossing is far too near the roundabout. Cars and motor bike are looking to their right ready to give way and by the time they look forwards again , there is someone on the crossing and have to brake heavily, often resulting in rear end shunts. I believe that someone was killed on that crossing a few years ago. You realy do take your life in your hands using it. Will the council do anything . NO, NO, Not in the budget.
Give way means stop and look
The Highway code says ” Give way to traffic from the right unless instructed otherwise” Or words to that effect.
What happens when all the traffic arrives at the roundabout at the same time? Might have worked years ago.
As is obvious it dont now.
You use your commen sence , you yourself seem to be one of the many island drivers who don’t know how to use roundabouts, I once witnessed on said roundabout an elderly lady driving on a buissy day close her eyes and actually speed up! Wtf lol,
I know how to use roundabouts. i am an advanced driver. Common sense is great if everybody else uses it. Be interesting if the highway code stated. ” When negotiating a roundabout, use your common sense” You sound like one of those islander’s involved in that Apse Heath crash.
The lady had to be elderly didn’t she. And speeded up with her eyes closed. What were you doing ,standing there with a pair of binoculars. Hope you wasn’t driving.
Saidit before and will say it again, island drivers are the worst i have ever witnessed and yes i have dealt with thousands of them before you ask.
No I was coming out of the shop,as that is the only.place to my knowledge that sells frozen pie and mash(yum) and why would you assume that I was the kind of island driver to be involved in said incedent, you an advanced driver???! You sound a bit like a knob to me (no offense) lol x
So, three crashes in just one day. The one at Lushington Hill, then the car in a ditch near Culver Down, then this one at Apse Heath. My theory is all of these incidents have one thing on common…. Driving without due care and attention. Is it really that difficult to keep your eyes on the road?! I’m just glad that nobody else has been injured, or worse, by the actions of these people. The standard of driving on this island amongst many just seems to get worse as time goes on!
I’ve lived near this incident for past 10+ months. In that time I’ve nearly been shunted at the roundabout and also nearly hit by cars not stopping for zebra crossing multiple times.
The zebra crossing is way too near to the roundabout, and the roundabout it’s self is dangerous as no one ever slows right down or hasn’t experienced a small roundabout where you need to give way to 2 positions.
Surely the best solution for both car and pedestrians is to put a traffic light system in place!
It works fine if you know how to use it!
There were going to be traffic lights there many years ago but decided against. Probably cost too much. Was price is life?
I have said it before andi will say it again, Island driving is the worst i have ever witnessed and believe me i have witnessed and dealt with thousands.
The time has come that island drivers take lessons on the mainland, and their test before they are allowed to drive on the island…..no matter what the cost…
Totally agree mate, makes me wonder sometimes how some of these people actually passed a test full stop.
Anyone from the IOW driving on the mainland should have a pitchfork sticker on their vehicle.
