18-year-old Owen Chambers is to appear in Crown Court accused of seriously injuring a 9-year-old boy in a roa traffic collision on the outskirts of Whitwell earlier this year.
It was on 25th February, at just gone 16:40, that emergency services were called to a crash between a VW Golf and a Mini One on the main Whitwell to Ventnor road, as previously reported by Island Echo.
A 9-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Golf, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital and later transferred to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
Now, following months of investigation work, 18-year-old Owen Patrick Chambers, of Mountbatten Drive in Newport, has been charged with numerous offences.
Mr Chambers appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 1st October charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice, failing to stop, driving without insurance an driving without a valid MOT.
The matter has been deemed so serious that the case has been sent up to the Isle of Wight Crown Court, where Owen Chambers will appear on 11th November.
No plea has been entered, despite contrary reports from other local media.
