A 14-year-old arrested and charged with offences relating to anti-social behaviour in the West Wight has been handed an 8-month Referral Order by the courts.
It comes just weeks after a public meeting was held to discuss the severe anti-social behaviour of a group of youths in the normally quiet village of Freshwater. A group of around 12 youngsters aged between 12 and 15 are thought to be behind the spate of crime in recent months.
The teenage boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared before the Isle of Wight Youth Court last week charged with a number of offences, to which he pleaded guilty.
It’s said that on 5th December last year he caused damage to a window at a property on Kendal Road in Totland, before going on to cause damage to a patio door belonging to Councillor George Cameron on Queens Road, Freshwater on 5th January this year.
The teen also pleaded guilty to 2 counts of theft from a shop at Sainsbury’s in Freshwater to the value of £25.
Magistrates ordered the boy to pay a total of £221 in compensation.
He must attend the Isle of Wight Youth Offender Panel, accompanied by his mum, for a period of 8 months.
