A young girl who started to drift out to sea on a paddleboard has been rescued by Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat this morning (Tuesday).
The 12-year-old’s mother grew concerned for her daughter as the current swept the youngster further out into The Bay near Yaverland.
The concerned mum did the right thing in dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard, which prompted an immediate response from the volunteers of Sandown Lifeboat.
The alarm was raised at around 10:45.
The child has now been successfully brought ashore by the lifeboat crew. The girl and her mother have been met by officers from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team.
The rescue teams have been thanked for their efforts and have now stood down from the incident.

Lifejacket and some basic respect for the water would have helped, maybe even some training about tides! It looks pretty but it will take your life if you do not respect it. From a boat owner of 40+ Years.
What the hell was she doing on a paddle board that time of day she should be being home schooled
PE?
I sometimes see children wearing high viz clothing, however, pity a twelve year old wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
Sometimes people have their priorities all wrong,…PE with a little common sense would help..
It’s a joke. So many treating it as extra holiday. What was her mother going letting her out that far and are they from mainland one wonders?
The sooner these kids get back to school the better
