An 11-year-old boy has been praised for his actions in helping get vital medical assistance to a family member who had fallen on the sea wall between Colwell and Totland in the West Wight on Saturday afternoon.
Whilst enjoying daily permitted exercise, an adult accompanying the unnamed child fell and was knocked unconscious.
With hesitation, the youngster was able to calmly call the emergency services and give detailed information as to where the accident had taken place. He then positioned himself at Totland to guide in the emergency services responding to the 999 call.
First on the scene was Freshwater’s Co-Responder, who quickly established the casualty had a head injury. An ambulance crew was also mobilised to the scene – 200 metres along the sea wall path.
It’s said that the 11-year-old helped prevent the medical emergency being a lot worse than it was thanks to his quick action and clear guidance.
The casualty was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further treatment.
