The Cowes Floating Bridge will be suspended for a time tomorrow morning (Christmas Eve) – just days after coming back into service following a 4-month repair job.
It has been revealed that contractors failed to correctly insert a pin that connects the inner and outer prow hinge, which means the East Cowes to Cowes service will be halted for around 2 hours to enable the part to be replaced.
The pin was not capped to secure it, resulting in it coming lose and falling out. A replacement pin has been ordered and is due to be fitted – and secured – tomorrow morning.
Local councillor Karl Love has branded the situation ‘unbelievable and unacceptable’, with this mistake being the latest issue in the ongoing floating bridge saga. It would almost be comical if it wasn’t costing the tax payer millions of pounds…
In a statement issued to stakeholders, it’s said that Floating Bridge No.6 will be out of action between 10:15-12:15.
A replacement launch service will be in operation.
